The whole plant is used in the feed and food industry. Depending on the variety, sunflowers are made into either oils, seeds or leaves and blossoms. The largest sunflower growing countries are the United States (which, in addition to growing corn, grows the most sunflowers in the world), Russia, Ukraine and Argentina. Sunflower is also cultivated in the Nordic countries.
The sunflower is known above all for the nutritious properties of the seeds and as food in salads and as small snacks.
Less well-known is the use of petals as food, the most well-known use of this kind can be found mainly in the tea mixture favored by the Chinese, which they call Sun tea, where sunflower petals and rose petals are used as one of the ingredients.
Sunflowers have been used for the well-being of the liver, the well-being of the digestive tract and skin care. When it comes to feed use in the Nordic countries, the largest consumer group of beer is well-known rodents, the horse feed industry in Finland has not yet "discovered the yellow messenger of the sun".
