The lightning protector protects your shepherd from lightning strikes through the fence by directing the lightning to the ground before the shepherd. Installed between the fence and the shepherd. Hot-dip galvanised. A separate lightning arrester is recommended, especially for mains-powered shepherds in areas where there is a high risk of lightning striking close to the fence. • The lightning protector protects your shepherd from lightning strikes through the fence by directing the lightning to the ground before the shepherd. Installed between the fence and the shepherd. Hot-dip galvanised.

A separate lightning arrester is recommended, especially for mains powered shepherds in areas where there is a high risk of lightning striking close to the fence. This includes open and high altitude enclosures.

Also remember to ground the lightning arrester
To work at its best, the lightning arrester should be separately earthed with its own earthing rod. So do not connect the lightning protector to the same earthing rod as the shepherd.

It is recommended that the lightning protector has more earthing rods than the shepherd (at least 3) and that they are installed about 1 metre apart and about 5 metres from the shepherd's earthing rod. Remember also that the ground rods should be embedded in the ground along their entire length, leaving no part of them visible. We recommend the use of durable Olli high voltage cable for installation.
