Does the fence work? Easily test the voltage of your fence with Olli's digital tester!

Olli Digitester+ is a fence tester with digital display that shows the voltage (kV) of your fence clearly in numbers. 9 V battery included.

When it's time to change the battery, the meter displays 88.

    Shepherd test
Disconnect the shepherd from the fence and ground. Turn on the power to the shepherd.
Measure the voltage between the shepherd's shock and ground hubs. The tester's probe goes into the shepherd's shock pole and the grounding pin into the ground pole. If the voltage is close to the "maximum voltage, Umax" as stated by the manufacturer, the shepherd is in good condition.
    Measurement of the open-circuit voltage
Insert the earth rod into the ground.
Touch the tester's probe to the fence. The meter will display the fence voltage in kilovolts (e.g. 4.0 kV = 4000 V).
Test each layer of fence wire separately.
On the winter strip, test the voltage between the shock and ground wire bundles.
Did you know? Poor earthing is the most common cause of poor fence performance (and interference with radio equipment).

Common causes of inadequate grounding include dry soil, ground rods not dug deep enough, insufficient number of ground rods, or the wrong material for the ground rod (e.g. bristle steel, which is a poor conductor of electricity when it rusts).
